Alexander Albon will return to Formula 1 next year. The former teammate of Max Verstappen will drive for the Williams team together with Nicholas Latifi.

It is often said that Verstappen's teammates are under a lot of pressure and therefore not performing enough. Albon disagrees: "Honestly, all the stories about pressure are a bit of a myth. It comes down to the driver putting pressure on themselves, it comes down to yourself," he told Motorsport-Total.com.

But according to the current DTM driver, Formula 1 is a special place. "The media are much more aggressive there," says Albon, but he doesn't go into detail. Practically, nothing changes for a driver anyway: "You're still there to perform and do your job well. So when I drive in the DTM, I put pressure on myself to do well." Helmut Marko is keeping a close eye on Albon's season in the DTM. "Helmut enjoys the DTM, he loves the racing there. I was even surprised at how much he likes DTM."

F1 return at Williams

A return to Formula One was always Albon's plan. "That was always Plan A. The more I talked to the people at Williams, the more interesting it became." Team boss Jost Capito was particularly convincing. "He seems like a great guy and he's really motivated," he says.

"If you think about where Williams was two years ago and where it is now, it has certainly made the most progress as a team in that time. The mood is right to really attack under the new rules."
