The Russian Grand Prix at the Sochi Circuit has been completed: Lewis Hamilton took his 100th Grand Prix victory. Never before has a driver won as many Formula 1 races as the Briton. But Hamilton said after the race that he would never have won without the help of his personal assistant Angela Cullen.

Pain in the neck

During the Italian Grand Prix at Monza circuit Hamilton collided with the RB16B of Max Verstappen. The speed of the accident was not very high by Formula 1 standards, but the Brit hit the right rear wheel of the Dutchman's car quite unfortunatly. Hamilton tried to reverse his car out of the gravel trap. After the race, he complained of neck pain.

During the two weeks rest, much was said and written about this situation. Some thought Hamilton was acting out, others that the Mercedes driver was lucky to be alive. Hamilton himself states after his victory in Russia that he still had problems in Sochi: "I woke up in the morning with a bit of pain in my neck," he explains to Motorsport-total.com.

Angela Cullen

Hamilton also said he would never have won the Sochi race without Cullen's care: "Angela has been working on it. She's been fantastic for the last two weeks. I couldn't have done it without her," Hamilton praised. "I was determined to do my job the best I could," he dedicates his victory to her.
