Lewis Hamilton is battling it out with Max Verstappen for victory in the world championship this season. The Briton is currently two points ahead of his rival, but still has a long way to go to secure his eighth world title.

The driver signed a new contract with Mercedes this year, which means he can be admired in Formula 1 for a longer period of time. Hamilton has also thought of quitting, he told the Italian branch of Sky Sports. "I get that thought often. It's like a wave," Hamilton explains. "There have been many occasions in the last four or five years when I didn't know if I wanted to try anymore, to sacrifice myself training at the expense of my private life. There are other things I like to do. So many things I'd like to try."

"But on the other hand, I tell myself I'm so lucky to be doing this job," Hamilton continued. "In a long time, the career in the car will be just a small part. There is time enough to retire. It's a matter of finding the balance. I tell myself that if I'm still hungry and training like I did as a kid, which I do, and if I'm still getting good results..."

Hamilton looked surprised on Sunday afternoon when Verstappen finished in second place from last position. In two weeks time, both drivers will battle for the points in Turkey.
