Lewis Hamilton captured his 100th win in his Formula One career at the Russian Grand Prix on Sunday afternoon. The British driver hoped to take a big lead over Max Verstappen, who started the race from the back, but failed. This is also the talk of the day in the Dutch sports media.

Algemeen Dagblad

The Algemeen Dagblad sees that the final score is mainly positive for Verstappen. "Hamilton seemed to give Max Verstappen a big blow in the World Cup, but Mother Nature came to the rescue seven laps before the end. Rain in Sochi, just like a day earlier. The right call in the pit lane, immediately changing to rubber with grip, where others remained braver and kept postponing the decision."

The Telegraph

The Tele graph expects a blistering final battle at the end of the season. "What's hot. Seven races to go in this sweltering Formula One season. And the Russian Grand Prix proved one thing once again. Under difficult conditions, not the tactical and mental games, but the ingenuity and instinct of the best drivers make the difference."

De Volkskrant

According to De Volkskrant , the disappointment lay with Hamilton. "Verstappen and he changed to rain tyres relatively early. Other drivers, like race leader Lando Norris, did not. This allowed Hamilton and Verstappen to move up and Hamilton thus won his hundredth Formula 1 race. But with Verstappen next to him on the podium, that record victory had to feel a bit like a missed opportunity."

Het Parool

"The Dutchman had little trouble advancing to the front," writes Het Parool about the race in Russia. "Even Valtteri Bottas, the Finn of Mercedes who had been given the task to hold him up for a long time, was soon overtaken. Still, by the end of the race, the podium seemed out of reach."

NRC

The NRC points out the difficult position Verstappen was in. With his second place, he ensured that his gap in the world championship remained as small as possible. "Hamilton took his 100th victory in Formula 1 in Russia, while his rival Verstappen kept the damage limited."
