Qualifying for the Russian Grand Prix did not go as Lewis Hamilton had hoped. Not only did the Briton have to settle for fourth on the grid, but he also ran into the wall twice.

Hamilton is clearly disappointed with his performance in qualifying, having to take advantage of Max Verstappen's grid penalty this weekend. As a result, the Briton acknowledges that he made mistakes. "No! It was just a mistake from myself. Ultimately, I am incredibly disappointed in myself. Up until then, I was really in the zone and I am really sorry for all the team that are here and are back home in the factory. That is not what you expect from a champion," Hamilton told Sky Sports F1 cameras.

"But it is what it is, and I will do my best tomorrow to try and rectify it. It was horrible at the end. Very poor grip and I was losing temperature on the lap. Twice in the wall. That is very rare from me."

Can Hamilton still win?

Despite Hamilton's disappointing performance in qualifying, all is certainly not over for the Mercedes driver. If the team manages to fix his car, he will only have three other cars ahead of him tomorrow, making not only the podium a realistic scenario, but even a win. Yet Hamilton himself is not so sure about that.

"The guys up front have got good pace and it definitely won't be easy but I am just going to say my prayers hope that the car can be fixed and is hopefully okay for tomorrow. I feel terrible right now but I will turn it into a positive," the seven-time world champion concluded.
