Pérez: 'In Monza we were much closer than expected'

Sergio Pérez feels that his team can surprise ahead of the Russian Grand Prix. Although Mercedes is the favourite to win the race, Red Bull Racing also feels it can claim victory.

The Mexican takes in conversation Soymotor.com the previous race in Italy as an example. Then too, the German racing team seemed to be the favourite, but Red Bull was still able to offer good resistance. "In Monza we were much closer than expected. So I think when we come here we have high expectations to be very close to Mercedes and hopefully be able to drive up front," stated Pérez.

Disappointing races from Pérez

Prior to the Italian GP, Pérez collected just four points in four races. Max Verstappen's teammate did a lot better two weeks ago by finishing fifth.

"We've had a few bad races in a row. It's important that we put in a solid performance. Unfortunately we lost a podium due to a penalty, but we did that on a track that was not favourable for us. So in that respect I'm very satisfied."
