Nyck de Vries is still in the hunt for a Formula 1 seat for next year. The only chance the Dutchman has left is with the Alfa Romeo team. But one stint in Formula 1 does not necessarily mean that his career has succeeded, he says.

For a long time De Vries was one of Williams ' contenders for a seat in 2022. Those spots have been given to Alexander Albon and Nicholas Latifi. After this confirmation, the only remaining spot on the grid is the seat next to Valtteri Bottas at Alfa Romeo. But the competition is fierce and the chances seem slim for De Vries.

De Vries wants to score in F1

In conversation with Formula 1 Magazine De Vries let it be known that his career has not failed if he does not make it to Formula 1. "Certainly not a failure. Whether it would gnaw at me? That depends on how the future unfolds."

The Formula E world champion also admits that his career would not be immediately successful if he does make it to F1. "No, because you can make it to Formula 1, but ultimately you want to be successful there too. I'm not just competing for the sake of competing, I want to compete to compete - if you know what I mean!"

Mercedes would like to see De Vries in Formula E

In any case, De Vries knows for sure that as long as he is not confirmed at Alfa Romeo, there will be a place to defend his world title in Formula E. The team of Mercedes is only too happy with the qualities of the 26-year-old Dutchman. Mercedes hopes that, together with De Vries, the team can say goodbye to Formula E when it stops racing in the electric class after the 2021/2022 season.
