The sprint race at Monza was the second time this season that Formula 1 has tried this format. It is an attempt to make the sport more attractive, but some drivers felt it was a bit of a disappointment today. Alonso doesn't understand why something new needs to be tried at all.

According to the two-time world champion Formula 1 is always looking for improvements while sometimes that is not necessary at all. He makes a comparison with football: "They have so many boring matches and no drama is made of it. There are no suggestions to make the goal bigger or to play without a goalkeeper," the Spaniard is quoted as saying by Crash.net quoted.

Alonso likes the idea of 'Superpole

Alonso feels that Formula 1 can already be proud of what they have achieved and doesn't feel the need to change that with 'gimmicks'. He is not a fan of a reversed starting grid, but to make qualifying really exciting he has a suggestion.

He would like the super pole to return. This would take place on Friday, so teams and drivers would have as little preparation time as possible. He thinks that this way drivers can make the difference, instead of the order being determined by the speed of the cars.
