As a result of Mercedes troubles, Max Verstappen takes pole position for the Italian Grand Prix. Valtteri Bottas finished the sprint race in first, but will start from the back of the grid due to an engine change. Meanwhile, Hamilton had a poor get away from the start line. Red Bull boss Christian Horner remains cautious despite this pole positon.

"The objection is to convert pole position to victory, so there's going to be some challenges tomorrow," Horner told Sky Sports. Verstappen gets Red Bull's first pole positon at Monza in the hybrid era.

The start

"It was all dictated at the start. A great start from Max, a poor start from Lewis. We were able to capitalise on that. The fast starting McLaren's on the softs, we were vulnarble to them at the start but we were able to cover it off We got a good start, Lewis got bogged down. Once you're thorugh turn two, you're away at that point," Horner said.

Verstappen will start alongside his former Red Bull teammate Daniel Ricciardo. The McLaren driver says he will be going full attack, something which Horner wants to watch out for if they start on the soft tyres.

"You know the soft tyre is worth about four meters, if they're on the front-row with a soft tyre, well why wouldn't they. Mercedes will have the same dilema. You get into risk and reward scnearo, of course he'll fight for the win. but at the end of the day, you've got to be three for the chequered flag," Horner added.
