After a sweltering weekend at Zandvoort it is time for the Italian Grand Prix at Monza this weekend. A circuit that is always said to be easier for the drivers than other circuits on the calendar. Max Verstappen knows the dangers as well.

On Verstappen.com the Dutchman says that driving with little downforce at Monza also has its disadvantages. A disadvantage that not only Verstappen, but all drivers on the track will have trouble with. With whatever car.

"Because of that (driving with less downforce) braking becomes more difficult and you have less traction, also through the bumps. The layout of the track looks simple, but that doesn't make it the easiest track to drive and get everything out of a lap. You also have to deal with slipstreams and warming up your tyres, it all has to come together to put in a good lap here."

Does Mercedes or Red Bull have a clear advantage?

According to Verstappen, no, not even in Monza. "No, I don't think so. It's very close together. Sometimes they are slightly ahead and the other time we are. Monza has never suited us very well, that has also to do with the top speed. With the car and engine we have this year, we expect to score better than in recent years. I think Mercedes will be very strong here. We will see."

The Dutchman will try to outrun Hamilton in the battle for the championship at Monza this weekend. Verstappen will also work with Sergio Perez to close the gap on Mercedes in the Constructors' Championship.
