This weekend the Italian Grand Prix will be held at Monza. The circuit has a long history in Formula 1 as the race was on the calendar in 1950 during the first World Championship. Only in 1980 was the Italian Grand Prix was held at Imola.

Special relationship between Monza and Alfa Romeo

The very first Grand Prix at Monza was won by Giuseppe Farina in the Alfa Romeo. The Italian driver also became the first Formula One world champion that season. Alfa Romeo and Monza therefore have a special bond and the team will be paying extra attention to it this weekend.

"For the occasion of the Italian Grand Prix, the car will take to the track in a livery specially produced for the event by the Centro Stile Alfa Romeo," reads the Alfa Romeo press release. "The star is the logo, which celebrates the brand's 111-year history, with the colours of the Italian flag reinstated."

Italian flag prominent

"The upper part of the bonnet is coloured 'quadrifoglio' green, complementing the usual red and white of the official livery. The reinterpretation of the colours thus provides a horizontal outline for the Italian flag, which is now the dominant theme of the livery."

Not only the car, but also the overalls of the mechanics and drivers are getting a metamorphosis. "The Italian flag is also brought to life by the 111 logo, which is incorporated into the upper part of the suit and forms a vertical outline on the driver's leg, 'metaphorically' down to the tarmac." At least in the pictures, it already looks stunning.
