Helmut Marko enjoyed the atmosphere at Zandvoort during qualifying for the Dutch Grand Prix. The Red Bull Racing advisor saw Max Verstappen take pole position, while Sergio Perez only managed a 16th time. Marko is confident of good results on Sunday.

"The atmosphere here is incomparable, I can't remember such an atmosphere in recent years. I'm happy for the fans that Max has met their expectations. Now of course they also want a win tomorrow," Marko said in conversation with F1 Insider. The 78-year-old Austrian thinks Verstappen can succeed in that mission. "Max is calm and strong enough. He also enjoys it [the atmosphere], but can still perform without it putting a strain on him."

Speaking to Austrian television station ServusTV , Marko also addressed the elimination of second driver Perez in Q1. The Mexican wanted to push for a fast lap, but as he passed start-finish the flag had already fallen. "The timing was not good. They [the drivers ahead of Perez] all went into the last corners so slow at the end... Sergio should have been sent off earlier."

Gasly impresses Marko

In Hungary, the same thing already happened to Verstappen's teammate. Marko knows that things must improve the rest of the season if Red Bull are to continue to put pressure on Mercedes."This is a lesson for the future, especially on a track that is so short", he states. Verstappen can possibly count on support from Pierre Gasly. The Frenchman finished fourth in his AlphaTauri. "It's incredible what he gets out of the car. Now we hope he will be an ally for us at least tomorrow."
