Where things went wrong for Ferrari at Spa with both drivers being eliminated in Q2, the team was the fastest on track during FP2 yesterday. Charles Leclerc set the fastest time, followed by Carlos Sainz. The team is focused on qualifying.

The team managed to come back strongly yesterday, but Ferrari sports director Laurent Mekies stresses on Motorsport-Total.com"I don't think lap times tell the whole story." Indeed, Ferrari did not concentrate on the long runs on Friday, but mainly on qualifying. According to the team, this will be the most important session of the weekend because on Sunday Monaco-like scenes are expected with little overtaking.

"We won't let ourselves get crazy: The top three will be at the front again very fast tomorrow and it will be an exciting battle in the midfield." As Zandvoort is a new circuit on which they have not driven much yet, Mekies still sees plenty of room for changes in the standings.

Ferrari must improve long runs

"What you saw today is not necessarily what you will see tomorrow. Everybody will improve, everybody will learn, everybody will find the right balance," he says. The long runs are another area of improvement for Ferrari. "That's where we are most lacking at the moment in terms of competitiveness," says Mekies. "Because of the red flag there were no long runs in most of the first practice and in the second practice we were more concerned with qualifying than with anyone else."
