Ferrari was the fastest team on track during the second free practice, but due to traffic and multiple red flags Max Verstappen couldn't do a decent fast lap. Zandvoort is a new circuit and the drivers and teams want to drive as much as possible.

It looks set to be another close race between Red Bull and Mercedes. Mercedes have problems in Turn 2 and Turn 3, while Red Bull Racing still have too much understeer in Turn 9 and Turn 11. "But in the long runs we were between two and four tenths ahead of the others. Perez is also doing well in the long runs", said Helmut Marko to Auto, Motor und Sport.

There are an incredible number of orange fans in attendance this weekend. "Look at what is happening in the stands and in the city. The fans expect Max to win the pole. Any other outcome would be a disappointment for them and Max is under pressure to deliver", said Marko.

Ferrari back in Monaco form?

Helmut Marko admits that Charles Leclerc's best time looked good, but he has hope: "The Ferrari's always run on less fuel on Friday. And in the long runs we are stronger." Team boss Christian Horner fears: "Ferrari can be dangerous for us here. We know since Monaco how good they can be on tracks like this."

According to AMuS's analysis, Ferrari has yet to find a good lap time over the long runs. McLaren, Alpine and AlphaTauri were all faster, Carlos Sainz finished somewhere in midfield on the soft tyres. The same goes for Leclerc on the medium tyre. Lance Stroll was ahead of him in the Aston Martin by four tenths. GPblog also did an extensive analysis on the long runs.
