The point for the fastest lap of the day went to Nikita Mazepin. In the two laps that took place behind the safety car, Nikita Mazepin was the fastest driver. The Haas F1 driver did so in the second lap, but because the Grand Prix was red-flagged the fastest time of the first lap should count. And that's when Max Verstappen comes into the picture.

In the official FIA final results, only the starting lap was included, so Mazepin would lose his fastest lap. Not that the Russian driver gained half an extra World Championship point for that, as he did not finish in the top-ten.

In the lap before, Verstappen was the fastest with a time of 3:27.071. Still, the sixteen-time Grand Prix winner has not yet been awarded the half-point. Motorsport-Magazin.com Confronted Helmut Marko with her findings. "We will check it out, we would have liked to have scored half an extra point," said the Austrian top man.

According to the German media, there is a chance that no extra half-point will be awarded for the fastest lap this time, as the regulations require it to be a 'valid lap'. The only classified lap was one that started from the pit lane and covered 6.88km. A normal lap at Spa however is 7.004 kilometres. To be continued undoubtedly...
