Lewis Hamilton has had his say when it comes to his teammate for 2022. Where Toto Wolff earlier indicated that Hamilton did not want to influence the decision, the Brit now has a different opinion.

Mercedes is facing an important choice for 2022. Lewis' contract has already been extended, but the second seat still needs to be filled. Many voices are pointing towards George Russell finally getting his chance at the main Mercedes team, but the possibility of Valtteri Bottas staying cannot be ruled out either.

Hamilton speaks out

Hamilton has already expressed his support for Bottas staying on, and has said so personally. The two work well together and that makes for a good atmosphere within the team. However, where Wolff indicated that Hamilton doesn't want to influence the decision, Hamilton now lets it be known that he does give his opinion in this discussion.

''Toto is a great leader and as I have said many times, we have continuous contact. Of course we talk about such things. And of course we are all part of the same team. We want the best for the team, we want to win more championships. That's why we have these kinds of conversations. The final decision lies with him and with the Mercedes board. I am part of the team so of course I will support the decision,'' Hamilton said opposite Motorsport.com.
