Vettel looks back at disqualification: 'There should be more tolerance'

Earlier this month Sebastian Vettel lost his second place in Hungary due to insufficient fuel in his car after the race. The German believes that the requirements are very strict.

Aston Martin lodged a protest against the disqualification, but without result. Due to a leakage, there were not enough litres in the tank and that doesn't comply with the rules. The four-time world champion is of the opinion that the rules are very strict. "Looking back on the whole thing it is clear. The rules are as they are and we are disqualified", he is quoted on the Dutch site of Motorsport.com.

"But looking forward, of course, something like this is incredibly bitter. In these circumstances, which I understand better because I am the one who suffered the consequences, you don't wish this on anyone. There should be a bit more tolerance, but I don't know how and what exactly black on white should be written down. That's something other people determine."

Big disappointment, beautiful memory

The disqualification came unexpectedly for Vettel. "It was only at the end, I think on the very last lap, that we found out that it might not be right. We were very surprised when the fuel turned out not to be in the car. We have to accept it and move on. It was an important day because we scored a lot of points. There are a lot of races coming up now, so the important thing now is to get some points from that."

Despite the disappointment, Vettel does hold fond memories of the podium. "I was on the podium, I experienced the hype of the whole race. At that moment, of course, I experienced the emotions and it was a great day. You look back on it with great memories, although of course there is a bit of a nasty aftertaste because you were disqualified."
