Steiner counts down the days: 'We will soon be closer to the end'

Günther Steiner is counting down the days of the 2021 Formula One season. It may sound crazy for a team boss in that sport, but the Haas top executive is especially looking forward to 2022 when his team can make a fresh start.

Haas has opted to let 2021 run its course completely and focus everything on 2022. Where other teams still came up with updates for this season, Haas' car has been the same all year. This should ensure better performance in 2022 but makes this season very long for everyone involved.

Long season for Haas

''Absolutely. We'll get over this. I think there's one more race to go and then we'll be closer to the end than the beginning, but the focus as of now is on getting ready for 2022 and I think we're making good progress on that,'' Steiner said in the preview from Haas. There are currently 10 races left on the schedule, but F1 hopes to make it another 12.

''Triple-headers are unavoidable with the pandemic still out there. Ideally it would be a single race with a week in between and the second option would be a double race with a week in between, but we can't choose this year. I think the FOM and Stefano (Domenicali) are doing a very good job in putting together a good calendar for us and we have to live with that. It will certainly be a difficult second half of the season, but our team is strong and we will make it to the end'', Steiner concludes.
