Not too long ago, Formula 1 revealed a concept of the 2022 car with healthy pride. The rule change is intended to make overtaking easier on the track, so the criteria that the aerodynamics of the cars must meet are changed. However, the model car presented by Formula 1 clearly showed the absence of DRS on the car.

Zak Brown

Still, the F1 bosses have decided to keep the DRS on for at least one more season. In any case, the plan is that the opening rear wing will be abolished in the future. Zak Brown, team principal at McLaren, is happy that the FIA has decided to keep DRS on for at least one more season.

Speaking to Autosport.com he says: "I think it's a good idea to keep DRS initially. Let's drive the new cars first to find out: has it worked exactly as prescribed? Do they need adjustments? Do they need DRS? Do we need it for a shorter or shorter period of time?"

Toto Wolff

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff agrees with his colleague: "The DRS effect is actually something that is not fully understood at the moment. I think it's an aerodynamic device, which I think is quite attractive for the sport. But in the future, if you can track more easily, that could make DRS obsolete. Today it's a fantastic part of the show."
