Ahead of the race at Silverstone, the 2022 car was presented. For the first time fans and drivers could see what the new car looks like in real life. Sebastian Vettel, however, wasn't very happy about the look of the new car.

2022 cars not aesthetically pleasing

Vettel is asked by Ziggo Sport if Formula 1 is heading in the right direction with the new 2022 car. "Well it depends what’s the target. If it’s aesthetics, it doesn’t look great. But in the end, if it does the job and allows racing to be closer and the sport to grow, that’s the right direction."

But Vettel knows, even ugly cars become beautiful again by themselves: "You get used to everything. In 2008 to 2009 we had a big shift. Everybody said the cars were ugly. By the end everybody got used tot hem and fell in love with them." In 2009, the F1 cars had big, wide front wings and narrow high rear wings that many fans didn't like.

The best cars don't get beaten

Cars in Formula 1 are constantly changing. So, according to the Aston Martin driver, whether a car is beautiful or not isn't that important. "I think it’s more the sport and the drivers that you remember rather than the exact look of the cars."

Vettel does have a favourite: "I think the most beautiful cars are unbeatable anyway. I would say the early to mid ‘90’s. Every car that wins is beautiful."
