Big changes in Formula 1 on the way: "Then DRS will be obsolete"

From 2022, Formula 1 will enter a new era with completely new cars. It should make it easier to follow other cars, and therefore increase the number of overtaking actions. Zak Brown and Toto Wolff therefore expect that DRS will eventually disappear.

In recent years many drivers have complained about the dirty air behind other cars. Because the cars are so sensitive it is almost impossible to drive behind another car. Overtaking has become very difficult, despite the Drag Reduction System, which opens the rear wing to reduce drag.

Will DRS disappear?

With the new cars of 2022, following other cars should already be a lot easier, but will DRS also disappear at once? ''From everything I hear from everyone, both within my team and outside, everyone thinks the new rules will work. But I think you won't know for sure until you're on the track,'' Zak Brown told Motorsport.com. The McLaren top man is supported in this by Toto Wolff.

''DRS was introduced because the cars were very efficient and the drivers were not able to follow each other and overtake. It is an aerodynamic tool and actually quite attractive. But in the future, if you can follow more easily, then DRS will be redundant. But for now, it's still a fantastic part of the show'', concludes the Mercedes team boss.
