During the European Football Championships, there was already criticism from different sides on the way the country handles LGBTQ+ rights, last weekend they organised a Formula 1 race and again they were told by the sportspeople that they have to change their policy.

Same Love

Sebastian Vettel wore rainbow shoes on Thursday and was seen wearing a fask mask with the rainbow colours all weekend. The Heppenheimer wore a shirt with the words "Same Love" on the front. He also wore this shirt during the national anthem, which earned him a reprimand from the FIA. Vettel said: "Of course it is not up to us to make the law, and that is not our role. But I think just expressing support for those who are affected by it is good."

Carlos Sainz, Valtteri Bottas and Lance Stroll also received similar reprimands. They kept their "We Race as One" shirts on during that same anthem. In any case, Lewis Hamilton was very pleased with the message Vettel was delivering in Hungary. To Motorsport.com he says: "I think it's great that Seb has taken a stand this weekend, really to speak out for those in the LGBTQ+ community here."

Proud Hamilton

The Briton, who currently leads the drivers' championship standings, revealed he was proud of the German. "I talked about it at the beginning of the weekend. I think it was important for him to do this. He probably won't have too many problems. But we have to take a stand. We're striving for diversity and inclusiveness, and that community is 100 percent part of that. I'm proud of him."
