Dutch press: "Part of what Verstappen said, replaced by beeping".

The Dutch press is unanimous: Max Verstappen could not do anything about the fact that he could not get involved in the battle at the front during the Hungarian Grand Prix. The Red Bull Racing driver was hit by Valtteri Bottas, causing him to lose the lead in the world championship to Lewis Hamilton.

The Telegraph

The morning paper writes that luck is not yet on Verstappen's side for now in 2021. "The suggestion that he might need a Four Clover, Max Verstappen immediately waved away. But the Red Bull driver has to admit that this year has not exactly been an easy one. And that's an understatement.

In Baku he missed out on 25 points due to a blowout, in Silverstone he was knocked out of the race by Lewis Hamilton and in Hungary too there was little he could do about the extensive damage to the RB16B. "Verstappen's engineers tried to fix his car as good as they could, but the damage to the Dutchman's car was huge. Especially the underside of his car was badly damaged. Hamilton got away with it and had nothing to worry about."

Algemeen Dagblad

The AD reported on Monday morning that Verstappen had actually hoped to take revenge on the incident two weeks ago. "Max would have liked to turn his frustrations about the crash at Silverstone into a victory in Budapest. Instead, the Hungary GP caused even more grumpiness. And then he also lost his leading position in the World Cup standings."

Over the on-board radio, the 15-time Grand Prix winner expressed his displeasure after the tap he received on (again) the opening lap. "Part of what Verstappen said at that moment had to be replaced by a beep. His reaction was understandable. While he himself had a good start in the Hungarian rain and quickly took over second place from Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas, he was suddenly hit from the right."

De Volkskrant

De Volkskrant also commented: "Two title rivals suddenly relegated to extras, strategic blunders and a winner who didn't have a euro on him beforehand. The course of the Hungarian Grand Prix was not even imagined by the best scriptwriter in Hollywood. With the main outcome that Max Verstappen lost his World Cup lead to Lewis Hamilton."

The newspaper continued: "It was a miracle that Verstappen was not immediately out of the race; his entire right bargeboard was broken. In a mechanical sport like Formula 1, even a driver like Verstappen can't perform miracles with that. His team tried to encourage him on the radio immediately after the race, saying that this one point 'might be the most important World Cup point' Verstappen has ever scored."

NRC Handelsblad

The NRC saw Valtteri Bottas as the culprit for all the fuss on the first lap. "Verstappen had no luck at the start, just like in the previous race, at Silverstone. On the wet track there were many collisions in the first corner. Verstappen had a good start and had already overtaken Valtteri Bottas, who had started ahead of him, when Bottas collided with Lando Norris at the back. Verstappen was able to resume the race, but the damage to his car was too great to be able to compete for the podium."

Het Parool

Het Parool is short but sweet about the course of Verstappen's eleventh Grand PRix of the season. "Although Verstappen was able to resume the race, there was visible damage to his car. He drove outside the points for a long time, but managed to add two more to his total with some overtaking."
