Mercedes were the slightly better team in Britain and the same seems to be true two weeks later in Hungary. Christian Horner isn't panicking though and claims Red Bull Racing are on the right track.

"Well I think we knew Silverstone and Budapest are very much Mercedes strongholds. If you look at their performances last year, we were a second off in qualifying in Silverstone and more than that here last year so I think we take encouragement that we are as close as we are and we’ve just got to make sure that we take the fight to them in the race tomorrow," Horner told Sky Sports.

In 2020, the Saturday session at the Hungaroring was a dramatic one for Red Bull's team. Alexander Albon finished 13th, while Verstappen had to settle for seventh, around 1.4 seconds adrift of Lewis Hamilton. It shows that the Milton Keynes-based formation has made strides with the RB16B and is close to achieving its goal.

Red Bull must be sharp at start

The start of the Hungarian GP will be particularly interesting. Starting from P3 and P4, Verstappen and Perez have an advantage over the Mercedes drivers on the soft compound. "I guess there’s going to be premium seats down at turn one and two tomorrow so tune in, it’s going to be well worth watching. I’m sure it’s going to be an exciting start, it’s different strategies, different grip levels but you know we’ve got to get a good start," said the Red Bull team boss.
