Marko: "It's understandable that Verstappen and Perez are more explosive than others".

Helmut Marko expects his drivers to get through the first lap cleanly and not crash into Mercedes drivers. The Red Bull Racing advisor said this in an interview with Austrian television after the somewhat disappointing qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

At ServusTV, Marko faces possible new drama as the lights go out at Turn 1. "It's a new race for us, no desire for revenge or anything like that," he said. "We want to win the world championship, so we have to finish in the points," echoes the 78-year-old Austrian.

Verstappen, of course, scored no points at the Silverstone circuit due to the touché with Hamilton and in Budapest, the Mercedes Briton ensured Perez was not allowed to make a second run in Q3. "That there is a certain explosiveness among the drivers is also understandable because of the incidents, but I assume from our side that there is the necessary common sense among the drivers."

Softs Verstappen deliberate choice after all?

Finally, Marko also briefly discusses the tyre choice to have Verstappen start on the red compound instead of the mediums. "We are deliberately on softs with Max because we hope to have a grip advantage at the start," he said. Those words are of a slightly different tenor than Verstappen's afterwards, though. The Limburger indicated that Red Bull wanted to avoid an exit in Q2.
