Ahead of the first Grand Prix since Max Verstappen's heavy crash at Silverstone, the Red Bull Racing driver has been bombarded with questions about the moment of contact between himself and title rival Lewis Hamilton. The media has been full of news stories and reactions to the incident for the past week and a half, but Verstappen says he has kept his distance.

Asked by Verstappen.com whether he has followed all the fuss and reactions in the media, he replies: “Not really. I didn’t use my phone that much to read up on the news. I use it for contacting friends and to prepare for sim races.”

Phone call between Verstappen and Hamilton

Hamilton contacted the Dutchman by phone to discuss the incident. What exactly was discussed in that conversation we will never know, but it may have calmed tempers a bit between the two. "“As drivers, you have to be able to talk about these things. It wasn’t awkward or anything", Verstappen said about the phone call.

"But it is what it is. We can’t turn back time. I have my opinion and he will have his. You don’t always have to agree because I don’t have to prove my right, nor does he," says the championship leader.
