Formula 1 is working on a season with a record number of races, with 23 races planned. This creates greater entertainment for the fans, but the amount of races also has its downsides.

Due to the coronavirus crisis, several races have been cancelled this season, causing Formula 1 to look for a replacement circuit several times. Three weeks ago the organisation of the Australian GP announced that the event in Melbourne will not take place again.

To fill up the Formula 1 calendar, the organisation is therefore busy looking for possibilities. They can choose to put a new circuit on the race calendar but they also have the option to use a track twice during the season. The organisation chose the latter option in Austria for example.

When this is a possibility again, the circuit of Saudi Arabia will be happy to oblige. The street circuit is on the calendar for the first time ever this season, but the organisation is expressing its ambitions to host two races. "We have not yet received a request from Formula 1 to organise a second race, but we are perfectly on schedule with our preparations", Prince Khalid Bin Sultan Al Faisal said in conversation with Sporza.
