Wolff looks back at Silverstone: "Never nice to see a car crash"

The rivalry between Mercedes and Red Bull Racing has been brewing since the start of the season. At first, it was just a matter of bickering over the flexible front and rear wings, fast pitstops that were deemed too dangerous and the George Russell vs Valtteri Bottas dilemma, but it reached a new level at Silverstone when Max Verstappen was taken to hospital after a collision with Lewis Hamilton.

Lewis in great shape

In an official press release from Mercedes, team boss Toto Wolff looked back on the race in England one more time. "Everyone has their own opinion about the events at Silverstone, and it was a very polarizing incident. The most important thing, however, is that Max is OK. It's never nice to see a car crash, especially at such a high speed and in such a corner, so we're glad he came out of the accident unscathed."

On Mercedes' own weekend, Wolff is undeniably very pleased though: "For us it was an encouraging weekend with the speed of the car, the little upgrades we made worked well and we scored some big points, so we want to keep that momentum going. Lewis was on form at Silverstone with a brilliant recapture in front of his home crowd after the penalty. It was also a strong weekend for Valtteri with great teamwork and pace, narrowing the margin in both championships."

Chances in Hungary

In any case, Wolff rates his team's chances lower than the ones they had in England: "The Hungaroring is a high-downforce, tight and twisty circuit. Almost like a big version of a kart track. So Hungary will be a very different story to the last race and it's a circuit that probably suits our competitors better, but we will give everything we have."
