In the heat of the title race, Red Bull Racing and Mercedes are the main contenders, with their drivers now embroiled in a rivalry. But behind these teams, there's another candidate who could pose a challenge at the Hungaroring: Ferrari.

In principle, Ferrari can't keep up in terms of speed at the moment, but the Italian team has been the surprise factor in a number of Grand Prix weekends. One such example is Monaco, a circuit that Chris Medland believes shares many characteristics with that of Hungary. "It is quite possible that Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will be strong there," he writes on Formula1.com.

Can Ferrari fight for victory in Hungary?

Ferrari team boss Mattia Minotto joked that they did want to go for a 1-2, but according to Medland, it's not unrealistic to expect them to be in contention at the front. "The drivers have already tempered expectations by saying they hope to be the fastest after Mercedes and Red Bull Racing, but as we saw at Silverstone they can be quite competitive on the right tyre."

"It's not so long ago that Leclerc grabbed two poles in a row. Drivers will say Baku and Monaco have more slow corners than Budapest, but it's still a narrow and twisty circuit that will at least provide competition again. How competitive it will be is the intriguing part of it," Medland said.
