Max Verstappen has had the ambition to win the world championship for years, but had to leave Lewis Hamilton behind for a long time. However, the Dutchman has been competitive with his rival this season and is even leading the world championship, bringing his dream closer.

The Red Bull driver had a lead of more than 30 points over Lewis Hamilton but saw that number fade during the British Grand Prix. Verstappen crashed out, while Hamilton took the victory despite his ten-second time penalty. Despite this, the Dutch driver maintains an eight-point lead.

Ambitions of Verstappen

Verstappen hopes to fight for the championship with Red Bull Racing in the coming years and win many world titles. "My ambition is to win every single race, be on pole every weekend and win 20 world championships. But that's unrealistic," the driver judged in conversation with The BBC.

Indeed, he is aware that the qualities of the car play an important role in the performance. "You need luck in your life and a very dominant car and not always it's the case that one team will be dominant for such a long time. I try to do the best I can this year and then we will see what happens next year."
