Horner finds Wolff's action 'unacceptable': 'Must think clearly'

Christian Horner stood side-by-side with Toto Wolff at the stewards, but that was not Horner's intention. The team boss still feels it was a bad thing that Wolff went to the stewards, which meant Horner had to go along to balance things out.

Horner 'defends' the stewards

It was an interesting spectacle over the onboard radios. Where we have been able to listen in on the drivers' radios for years, nowadays conversations between Michael Masi and the teams can also be heard. After the crash of Verstappen, both Red Bull Racing and Mercedes were on the line. Wolff even paid a visit to the stewards.

''I saw Toto, who was lobbying the stewards, and I heard he was going there to do it, so I went to make sure that our view was represented. I don't think it's right that a team principal should be able to go and lobby the stewards. They should be locked away so that they're not influenced,'' Horner said according to Autosport.com.

''For me, it was unacceptable that he had gone up there to lobby the stewards. I wanted to make sure that there was a balanced opinion given, rather than trying to influence pressure on the stewards to make a menial sentence.''

Horner, therefore, remains of the opinion that this should not happen in the future. ''They need to be clear-headed to be able to make those decisions. I went to see the stewards because I'd heard that Toto was up there, presenting a case. You want it to be fair and balanced, and I don't think anybody should be allowed to see the stewards,'' the Max Verstappen team boss concluded.
