The battle between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen this year is not only exciting on the track, but off the track Hamilton and Mercedes are doing everything they can to stop the momentum of Verstappen and Red Bull.

In a major interview with the BBC, the Dutchman says he knows that Mercedes are doing everything they can off-track to make Red Bull less fast, but that he's shutting himself off from that as much as possible. He says he has no problems with the tactics of Mercedes.

"Everyone is free to deal with it in whatever way they want. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter to us. We just have to look at ourselves and try to improve every race weekend and not be distracted by other people, at least that's what we try to do. Everyone in the team."

Verstappen remains focused on his performance

Despite the fact that Vertappen gets to experience all the events outside of the track, he tries to shut himself off from it as much as possible. He wants to stay focused on himself and the team's performance. According to the Dutchman, Mercedes' attempts outside the circuit do not change that.

"I don't really pay attention to it. We are just very focused on the work within the team and that is what we try to do every weekend. Because that's what counts. That's how my dad taught me to live, you have to focus on yourself and work with your team. Everything else doesn't matter."

So far, it's working. Verstappen leads the world championship prior to the weekend at Silverstone, while Red Bull are top of the constructors' championship.
