Honda have managed to get it right in 2021. Of the first nine races, six have been won by a car with a Honda engine. Toyoharu Tanabe hopes to end Honda's Formula 1 association in style with the title.

Ending with the world title

At the end of 2021, Honda will pull the plug on their F1 project. The Japanese format will help Red Bull start their own engine project and transfer the data, but the Honda name will disappear from sight. However, with Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing at the top of the standings, Honda might just end in style.

''Once Honda participates in a race, no matter what category, our goal is always to win every race and to win the championship. For Honda in Formula One, if we miss out this year, it means we will miss out in the last year of Honda's Formula One participation and we will not be able to achieve our goal,'' Tanabe said on the Honda website.

Silverstone tricky for Honda

"There is still a long way to go, but we will do our best in the remaining races one by one to achieve our goal and realise our desire,'' said Honda's top executive. The next race is at Silverstone, and that is considered a 'Mercedes circuit', where Honda might find it difficult.

''Every circuit is difficult for us! When we finish a race we can say if it was easier, but before we go there it is impossible - we cannot say it will be easy. Every race is difficult for us,'' Tanabe concluded.
