Christian Horner has revealed that Red Bull Racing is already working hard on the brand new car that the team will field in 2022. The Brit says it's a 'juggling act' when it comes to the time you want to put into the current car and next season's car.

Searching for the right balance

In 2022, the cars will be completely overhauled. There will be new regulations and Formula 1 itself calls it a 'new era'. Therefore, according to Horner, it is important to spend the given time between the current car and the 2022 car.

"This year has been a juggling act with how much time and resource you commit to this year's car and how much you devote to 2022," Horner said in his column on RedBull.com. "It is far from a simple take, but I am confident we have the necessary resources to give both the attention they deserve."

Newey divides his time

Horner reveals that designer Adrian Newey is already heavily focused on the 2022 car, but is making enough time available for the current season's car: "He has been sketching his designs on the drawing board, like he always has done, and is balancing the focus on 2021 and 2022."

According to Horner, Newey has found new motivation now that the team can compete for the title. The partnership with Honda in particular has helped this. "Now we are in a situation where we have a car with a competitive power unit, I think it would be fair to say that he has a renewed motivation," he said.
