In light of the conclusions from the Hamilton Commission's investigation into ways to improve diversity in motorsport's premier class, Formula One announced a number of new initiatives aimed at making the sport more accessible today.

The first of these initiatives involves putting in place a scholarship for young engineers from underrepresented groups, including women, ethnic minorities and people from underprivileged backgrounds. In doing this, Formula 1 responds to Hamilton's request to make the sport more accessible.

Formula One is also releasing a total of eight internships within the organisation, again intended for the same groups mentioned above. Two of these will be directly employed by Formula 1, the other six will be spread across the organisation.

Even more actions

While awaiting the commission's conclusions, Stefano Domenicali, current CEO of Formula One, said he had long seen the importance of straightening out the inequality of opportunities in motorsport's premier class. "We completely agree that we need to increase diversity across the sport. We have taken action to address this and will be announcing more actions in the coming days", Domenicali said to Motorsport.com.
