Red Bull Racing is having a strong season with now five wins in a row. This last happened in 2013, Mercedes is not used to this kind of competition anymore. How will Red Bull be able to break Mercedes' dominance? Motorsportweek.com provides a technical analysis.

The difference is mainly in the updates Red Bull brings compared to Mercedes. Indeed, Toto Wolff 's team has not introduced many upgrades this year, instead focusing on 2022. There were minor rule changes for 2021, lowering the floor of the car and changing the diffuser. This seems to be an advantage for Red Bull, who now generate a lot of downforce from behind the car.

"Serrations were added to the diffuser in Monaco, and were then extended the entire length of the extractor profile in Styria. These help to increase the diffuser’s efficiency," the website reads.

More updates from Red Bull for Silverstone

In preparation for Silverstone, Red Bull has introduced changes to the bargeboards, directing more airflow to the side pods. The bargeboards are an important part of the car.

"The bargeboards are a nerve centre of the car, managing the airflow and how it will be directed to the rear of the car to create rear downforce. Small tweaks here can bring about quite substantial gains, even if the changes might look inconsequential."

But that wasn't all. Red Bull also introduced a new front wing, which builds on the innovations introduced in Monaco and Baku. This means that Red Bull has taken three different front wing specifications in just a few races time. That's impressive, even for a normal season. The question remains whether Mercedes will leave it at that or still introduce more updates to beat Red Bull.
