Mercedes has to chase the world championship for the first time in years. Whereas Lewis Hamilton has dominated the Formula 1 world in recent seasons, Max Verstappen is at the top of the leaderboard for the time being this season.

The Dutchman took the lead for the first time at the Monaco Grand Prix and has remained at the top of the world championship standings ever since. Verstappen's victories in France, Styria and Austria have put him 32 points ahead of his rival, who will be hoping to close the gap at the British GP.

Team boss Toto Wolff is not giving up the fight just yet, however. "It is a very entertaining that we are in this situation," he told Soymotor.com. "To be in a tough battle after winning our seventh championship in a row is a new experience that makes us stronger. In many years we will look back and say it was necessary."

Although Hamilton is dozens of points behind the Red Bull driver for now, Wolff expects the seven-time world champion to still fight his way back into contention. "We will never give up, that's the last thing we do. The positive is that there are still 13 or 14 races to go."
