Verstappen snatches another record from Vettel

Since Max Verstappen entered Formula 1 for Toro Rosso in 2015 at the age of 17, the Dutchman has already broken several Formula 1 records. For example, Verstappen already became the young driver ever to take World Championship points, stand on the podium or win a Grand Prix.

New record

The first Formula One record was set by Verstappen in 2014 in Japan when he became the youngest driver ever to compete in an official F1 session at the Japan Grand Prix. He was then just three days past seventeen years old. The records for the youngest driver to start in a race (17 years, 166 days), score World Chmapionship points (17 years, 180 days), lead in a race (18 years, 228 days), stand on the podium (18 years, 228 days), win a Grand Prix (18 years, 228 days) and drive a fastest lap (19 years, 44 days) subsequently also fell.

With his victory in Austria, Verstappen set another record, that of the youngest driver ever with fifty podium finishes. The Red Bull driver did that at the age of 23 years, nine months and four days. The old record was held by Sebastian Vettel who set the record at the age of 25 years and 327 days.

Verstappen in the top 17

In the history of Formula 1 only seventeen drivers managed to take fifty or more podiums. Lewis Hamilton tops this list with 171 podiums, followed by Michael Schumacher (155 podiums), Vettel (122 podiums), Alain Prost (106 podiums) and Kimi Raikkonen (103 podiums).

Verstappen cannot take the most wanted record, that of the youngest world champion ever, from Sebastian Vettel. If he becomes world champion this season, Verstappen will be third on the list of youngest world champions, behind Hamilton.
