F1 wants 23 races in 2021: These are the possible replacements for Australia

The Australian Grand Prix has also been cancelled in 2021, but Formula 1 is not worried. In fact, several options have already been discussed, and so the F1 calendar will once again feature 23 races in 2021. The question is which Grands Prix will jump in.

The Australian Grand Prix has been cancelled and with that comes another gap in the F1 calendar. Australia was scheduled for November 21st with the Brazilian Grand Prix two weeks before and the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix two weeks after. So there is room to put another Grand Prix in this gap, than necessarily a race in that region.

F1 wants 23 races

The Grand Prix that would best fit into this gap is a second race in Bahrain. This Grand Prix was also used at the end of the season in 2020, and a different lay-out could even be used. 

Besides Bahrain, there are of course other options like a German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring or the Hockenheimring, but that seems unlikely. It was reported earlier by Auto, Motor und Sport that organisers of these circuits are not making any effort to organise a race and that will not be easy because of the weather conditions in Germany so late in the season.

Japan and Brazil in the pipeline

Bahrain seems to be the most obvious option but there are more Grands Prix that are uncertain. The chance that the Brazilian Grand Prix will take place is very small due to the coronavirus situation in that country and also the Japan GP is in doubt after the cancelled MotoGP race in that same country.

For the Brazilian Grand Prix, there is most talk about a second race in America. This could be a second race at the Circuit of the Americas but Indianapolis could also be a possibility. Japan could be replaced by the Chinese Grand Prix or possibly even the return of the Malaysian GP.
