It was not an ideal weekend for Sergio Perez in Austria. Whilst his teammate Max Verstappen won the race and set the fastest lap, the Mexican was struggling with both the car and himself.

A failed attempt to overtake Lando Norris around the outside of turn 4 sent him off track and he fell back into the midfield. Ross Brawn pointed out his struggles in his column on Formula1.com.

"Checo had a difficult race. We can argue about the penalties, but he was a bit of a magnet this Sunday. Sometimes when you put yourself in the wrong place in the race, you seem to attract problems." The Mexican would eventually limit the damage and finish sixth.

Frustrations with Perez

In a duel with Charles Leclerc, Perez pushed the Monegas off the track twice, for which the Mexican received two five-second penalties. Brawn believes this situation and this aggressive driving style was caused by the moment with Norris.

"I'm sure he was mentally frustrated to fight for second place and then suddenly be in the middle of the pack. It's easy to overcompensate for that. He's someone who will leave Austria knowing it wasn't his best weekend."

Perez will want to find his rhythm and form again at Silverstone. It is vital to both Verstappen and Red Bull that Perez is up front in the battle for the podium places.
