Helmut Marko is currently over the moon with the performance of his pupil Max Verstappen. He was the one who dared to put the then only 18-year-old Verstappen in the Red Bull in 2016 at the expense of the disappointing Daniil Kvyat. Although Marko faced a lot of criticism, his decision turned out to be the right one. After the Styrian Grand Prix, Marko was therefore proud to stand on the podium with the Dutchman to celebrate his victory.

Tyre whisperer?

On Red Bull's website Marko spoke to alpine skier Marcel Hirscher. The latter is in fact a motorsports fanatic and is also half Dutch, although he has always played for Austria during sporting events. Dr. Marko tells Hirscher the secret behind Verstappen's success. "Every team can determine the temperature of the tyres using the tyre warmers in the garage, but Max can do this with his driving style. If he is asked by his race engineer to cool his rear tyre by five degrees, he can do it."

Win on every track

The Red Bull Racing advisor is confident for race two in Austria: "Our win at the Styria GP looked relatively easy, and it was. Max Verstappen never had to push the limit in Spielberg and was able to get out of the car sweat-free. We have a car that can win on all tracks."

The cost...

Red Bull Racing's success seems to delight everyone in the team, but Marko knows what it takes. "Max's achievement costs a lot of money, but it's worth it." Whether he is referring to the Dutchman's salary or the extra investment in developing an engine himself is unclear in this regard. "Max is a stubborn Dutchman who doesn't care about curbs," Marko said jokingly.
