Lewis Hamilton is looking to make things difficult for Max Verstappen in Styria, but he didn't start Friday particularly strongly. The Briton was fourth fastest in the second free practice session, but lost a fast lap to track limits.

Less speed than hoped for

"It was okay. A work in progress. The track is awesome and we are a little bit down particularly on the single lap. But generally, the car felt relatively solid. It's got some weaknesses and as I said coming into the weekend that we are loosing on the straights" Hamliton told Sky Sports F1 after FP2.

"So, we just need to keep on working. It was not feeling too bad. It's close throughout the whole field. They have the edge, but it's close. We don't know what will happen when they turn the engine up. I don't really know what to say," Hamilton said, referring to Red Bull Racing.

Tyres wear less than in the morning

"Happier with where we have the car. I am hopeful that the hard work will pay off soon. There is degredation but not as much as FP1" concluded the Mercedes driver.
