The British Grand Prix has been held at Silverstone since 1987, but now there is another candidate. The Mayor of London wants to bring Formula 1 to the capital.

With a race at Silverstone, the 'heart of F1' has a race in its own country and with figurehead, Lewis Hamilton, still at the top of his game, the fans have a driver to cheer for as well. The interest and love of Formula 1 within England is huge, and a race in London has been rumoured; possibly to replace Silverstone, but much more likely to come as an additional race on the calendar.

F1 to London

''We are talking to F1 and they are very receptive. The reality is that the reigning world champion is a Brit. Lewis Hamilton is an icon for our nation and for the sport. It would be great to host a race in the capital, and have both London and Silverstone on the calendar,'' London Mayor Sadiq Khan told The Standard.

Liberty Media has expressed its desire to expand the F1 calendar even further to 25 races, so there is still room, but when does Khan intend to make this happen? ' 'I think next year will be too soon, but I'm very impressed with the people at F1 and I want to have the GP there as soon as possible,'' the mayor concluded.
