Despite his crash in Baku, Max Verstappen is still on top of the championship. He has a four point lead over Lewis Hamilton, a margin he would like to extend in France this weekend.

Hopes for an exciting race

Red Bull is of course not the only team aiming for victory in France, Mercedes will want to strike back after two unsuccessful weekends. It might turn out to be a very exciting race. "That would be nice," Formule1.com quotes the Dutchman as saying at the press conference. "It means that both teams are competitive. At Paul Ricard we are not always great, but this year we have a strong car."

Vague statement from Pirelli

During the press conference, the crash in Baku, as a result of a burst tyre, was also discussed. Pirelli came up a statement that there was nothing wrong with the tyres, but what caused the tyre to blow out, the tyre producer didn't know either. "A bit vague," is also the conclusion from Verstappen.

According to Verstappen Pirelli tries to blame Red Bull for the blowout, but the leader in the championship wants to know nothing of it. "They should look more to themselves," he says. "We haven't done anything wrong."
