Alpine sees problem: 'We are actively investigating this'

It is a fact that Alpine has become faster and faster in qualifying during the season. The blue car can often be found in Q3, be it Esteban Ocon or Fernando Alonso. In the race, however, there are far more problems. So the situation is a bit similar to Ferrari in that respect.

Executive director Marcin Budkowski also sees this. In conversation with Autosport.com he says that the team is investigating why this is the case."We still have work to do to understand our race pace deficit and it is something we are actively investigating. It's clear that the car is capable of good performance in qualifying, but at some tracks we don't seem to be able to match that good pace in race conditions, and that's something we need to get on top of to score more points in the championship."

He is therefore hoping that the investigation will yield some results, as that would be a significant blow in the battle for fifth place in the constructors' championship. "We hope that our findings so far will help us to get a good result in France, at a full-time circuit that is more typical of what we normally see in Formula One."

Paul Ricard

This coming weekend in France will be a home race for Alpine Racing. Budkowski, like Frenchman Esteban Ocon, is looking forward to the race. Especially since there will also be 15,000 fans in attendance each day at the Paul Ricard circuit.

"I think everyone in the team is desperate for a good race on home soil, and we will work hard to do exactly that". Should the problems be discovered and the race pace be much better already this weekend, Ocon and Alonso will have a great opportunity to catch up with rivals Aston Martin and AlphaTauri during the upcoming triple header.
