There is not only action in the IndyCar this weekend. The IMSA is also running this weekend. Renger van der Zande drives together with Kevin Magnussen at Chip Ganassi Racing and was allowed to start the race in Detroit from pole position. They managed to hold on to that position and so they both took their first win of this season.

For Magnussen, it is his first victory after leaving F1 with Haas. He was therefore extremely happy after the race. "It's a dream. I am very happy to have been able to do this. To leave this weekend behind me with such a big trophy is extremely special," Magnussen explained after the race at IMSA.com.

Building on success

Van der Zande was also overjoyed with the victory. "We achieved it together. I am immensely proud of the whole team and how they pulled it off. We can only get better from here. We've had some bad luck and made a few small mistakes, but we're here now. This is our first win and we can build on it."

In the race, things got exciting in the closing stages. Van der Zande was battling with former F1 driver Felipe Nasr when the yellow flag briefly neutralised the race. With just under three minutes on the clock, the race resumed, but Van der Zande's position was not compromised. He kept Nasr behind him and thus won his first race of this season.
