Formula 1 will change drastically in the coming years to make the sport both more attractive and ready for the future. This means that the teams' cars will become heavier and heavier, which Lewis Hamilton doesn't understand at all.

The Mercedes driver sees that, on the one hand, Formula 1 is working to make the sport more sustainable, while the weight of the cars is going up. "I don’t understand particularly why we go heavier when there’s all this talk about being more sustainable," Hamilton stated in conversation with Motorsport.com. "Just as the sport is going in that direction. By going heavier and heavier and heavier, you’re using more and more energy. So that feels that’s not necessarily in the right direction or in the thought process."

The Englishman has previously indicated that he sometimes longs for the cars of a few years ago, which also went faster around the track. "The lighter cars were more nimble, were nowhere near as big, naturally, and so racing, manoeuvring the car, was better," he said.

Hamilton in battle with Verstappen
