Sebastian Vettel drove to his best result for Aston Martin to date in Azerbaijan. He scored his first podium for the team with a second place, the second strong result in a row after his fifth place in Monaco.

Vettel hopes to keep scoring points

So in Monaco he already drove a strong race, but the one in Baku was even better, in his opinion. "The difference is that in Monaco we were strong in one part of the race, and here we were strong throughout the whole race," Vettel told Ziggo Sport. "The pace was good and I was competitive from the start."

He continued: "In the first stint on the used tyres I was able to stay out longer than the rest, and I was able to overtake Yuki by an overcut. On the restart I was able to stay with the Ferrari and Pierre and fight for fourth place, then I won two places. It was a great race for us and I am very happy for the team, because the start of the season was tough. Hopefully, we can continue this at the next races and keep scoring points regularly."

Experience not crucial at restart according to Vettel

He further explained that the car didn't necessarily get better, but it did feel better. "And because it's a street circuit, maybe we could also make more of a difference. France will look more normal again because it is a normal circuit. It's also a pretty boring circuit," said Vettel, who incidentally doesn't think experience played a big part in his strong restart. "You did see that with Lewis. He has done so many races, but a small error of judgement can have big consequences."
