The entire weekend of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix was all about the rear wings. Would Mercedes make a protest against Red Bull Racing's rear wing, and with that a protest against the FIA

The rear wing of Red Bull

After the Spanish Grand Prix the discussion started about the 'Flexwing' of several teams on the grid. The rear wing of the RB16B would bend backwards more than allowed, but the car did pass the FIA test. Mercedes complained to the FIA, and the organisation responded with a new test for the French Grand Prix.

However, that was not enough for Mercedes. After the Monaco Grand Prix Toto Wolff announced that it would make a protest against Red Bull Racing if it came to Baku with the same rear wing. Helmut Marko called this a bad threat and hoped that Wolff would keep his word and actually file a protest.

Mercedes will not file a protest

The whole weekend this question remained and when asked about it, Wolff said he would wait until the race to see if they would file a protest or not. After the race, it turned out that the protest wouldn't take place. Mercedes will not file a protest despite a scoreless race and a win for Sergio Perez.

''No. The whole story is fundamentally annoying. We will not file a protest against Sergio Perez now, but we trust the new test of the FIA,'' Wolff said according to Motorsport-total.com. With that, Marko's prediction comes true after all, and Mercedes didn't really have a leg to stand on.
