Lando Norris finished qualifying for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in P6, his second best of the season, but despite a promising performance, he feels as though he could've gone far quicker. The late crashes from Yuki Tsunoda and Carlos Sainz ensured that Norris was unable to set another flying lap, which prevented him from moving up the grid.

Speaking to SkySports, Norris revealed how qualifying was far from smooth sailing: “Just chaos really. I think we were good, I felt confident in Q3. It was a messy Q1 and Q2 so it was difficult to get a good reading and get a nice, clean lap in.

"But in Q3, we did the used tyre for the first run, and I did a decent lap... I definitely could have gone quite a bit quicker on the new tyres. A bit gutted I couldn’t get that last lap in because we definitely could have been two or three spors higher. But it happens, it’s Baku, something always happens which can go wrong. Today just didn’t work in our favour, just the way it is and P6 is still a decent spot."

Potential Grid Penalty

Whilst he is relatively happy with his P6 spot, Norris could be facing a grid penalty due to red flag procedures, however, he believes he's done absolutely nothing wrong. “I didn't even know that I was under investigation so I need to go speak to the team.

"I was in the middle and I was obviously continuing the lap but I didn't know at what point I could really go left or go right. I slowed down straight away and I didn't think I did anything wrong. I was going at quite a high speed into the pit at that time. I need to speak to the team but I don't think I did anything wrong”
